All iOS 16 Features You Won't Get Until The End of This Year

It’s been nine days since Apple released iOS 16 to the public, bringing major changes to the Lock Screen, Messages, Maps, and more. A few days after the release, some users experienced several issues on their iPhones, ranging from slow system performance to drained battery.

In recent days, iPhone 14 Pro users have shared specific bugs related to Apple’s latest high-end iPhones, including camera shake, iMessage and FaceTime activation issues, and more. However, there is another issue that affects the broader group of iOS 16‌ users, and we’ve combined the two issues based on user reports below.

Abnormal Battery Discharge

After a major iOS update, your iPhone will drain battery life faster as it performs indexing and background tasks; however, some users on Twitter, MacRumor Forums (1, 2), and Reddit (1,2) reported excessive battery drain days after the update.

Wow, iOS 16 is buggy. Totally ruined my battery life on my 13 Pro. Now I have 14 Pro and everything seems fine, got great battery life, and now has bad battery life today. As estimated 4.5-5 hours SOT. And now, out of nowhere, my phone is starting to get really hot. What is going on??? Apple please fix this mess.

Other users reported improved battery life compared to iOS 15, so the overall experience was a bit mixed. Apple recently acknowledged that enabling haptic feedback for the keyboard in iOS 16 can drain battery life, so users experiencing battery drain can try turning it off if they enable it. If you’re still having battery issues, see our explanation.

Slow Highlight Search

The more prominent issue that iOS 16‌ users face is the slow performance in Spotlight search. Users report that Spotlight sometimes takes up to 10 seconds to load results on iOS 16 and sometimes it doesn’t load at all. Users on multiple Reddit (1,2) and MacRumor forum thread (1,2) sharing their experiences:

I have the same problem. Prior to iOS 15.6 search was instant, but when I updated to iOS 15.6 it got really slow, took more than 5 seconds for anything to show up while searching. I was hoping iOS 16 would fix this problem, but it’s just as slow. I even wiped the phone and restored it from an iCloud backup, hoping that would fix it. Not.
So Apple, please fix this problem in the next update. This is very annoying and I don’t want to lose all network settings because of this.

I use search on my phone to quickly open an app I’ve hidden or a few screens away. When I pull down and type to search, it sometimes takes 10+ seconds for the app to start showing up in search. They used to be almost instantaneous. For example, if I start typing MAP, Apple Maps, Google Maps, etc. appears as a result. Has anyone else noticed this massive slowdown?

For this particular bug, many users say that resetting all settings significantly improves Spotlight search performance, but an official workaround and/or bug fix has yet to be released by Apple.

New iOS 16 Update Coming Next Week

Apple has confirmed that it is aware of some of the issues users are experiencing, including camera shake on the latest iPhone 14 Pro‌, and has promised an iOS 16 update next week. The update, most likely iOS 16.0.2, will include fixes for camera issues, annoying copy and paste requests, and iMessage and FaceTime‌ activation. The update may also address other issues experienced by users, such as including battery drain and slow Spotlight search.
