But DJI is now also putting out the products, last week the DJI Osmo Action 3 Actioncam and today the new one DJI Osmo Mobile 6 smartphone gimbal. I had the opportunity to test the gimbal in Taiwan, here is my article and my accompanying video for you.
DJI fans should immediately notice that the name has become longer again. While DJI abbreviated the last two models to OM4 and OM5, the current version is called DJI Osmo Mobile 6.
If we look at the gimbal, at first glance not much has changed compared to the DJI OM5, only if you take a closer look do you notice a few innovations, such as the small display and the small wheel on the left side .
The display shows the current mode and also the remaining battery capacity. The small wheel on the side can be used for zoom and focus, making the gimbal even more powerful. More on that when I show you how to use it. As always, the smartphone is held with the magnetic clip, the clip is big enough to hold the smartphone with a protective cover and the magnet is so strong that nothing can fall down, so you don’t have to be afraid.
So that you can also use your smartphone with the gimbal, you need the DJI Mimo app. The setup is super easy, it is recognized automatically and you are ready to go within a few seconds. The app is relatively self-explanatory and is reminiscent of a drilled-out smartphone camera app. We have the different modes for photo, video, time-lapse, etc. and can start photos and videos directly here, set the zoom and also make settings in manual mode. The integrated selfie stick is also on board again, very practical!
We can frame objects on the screen, which are then recognized and tracked. The object recognition is really very precise here and even fast objects are tracked well. Anyone who has ever used another DJI gimbal will know their way around here. But the little wheel on the side is new and here we can zoom seamlessly and change the focus and record even better videos.
The zoom works really seamlessly and is above all very responsive, the movements of the wheel are transmitted to the smartphone with hardly any noticeable latency. If you push the wheel in, it switches to focus mode. Here we can then screw the focus manually, which can also provide cool effects.
The built-in 1,000 mAh battery has a battery life of up to 6:24 hours and the gimbal is then recharged in 1:24 hours with a 10W power supply. This means that the battery life is also sufficient for longer streams, for example.

DJI Osmo Mobile 6 | Conclusion
The Osmo Mobile 6 offers some cool new features that can make life easier for the smartphone filmmaker. With the display you can always see the current mode and have an eye on the battery life. And the new zoom and focus wheel on the side is a feature that makes the Osmo Mobile 6 even more professional and I really liked it, especially because it just works super fast and precisely.
