The environmental bonus makes e-cars more attractive. This has already been shown by the approval boom since the increase in the funding share. But from 2023 onwards, the government will no longer spend lavishly on electromobility. Long delivery times ensure that the 9,000 euro subsidy is already history.
Goodbye environmental bonus: e-car buyers look into the tube
If you want to buy an electric car, you usually have to have a lot of patience. Car manufacturers often have long backlogs of orders to work through, which results in long waiting times. That again costs customers a lot of money: The environmental bonus of a maximum of 9,000 euros has been counted. From 2023, e-car buyers will see less of their money.
Currently in Germany are practical no more e-cars available in time to secure the full environmental bonus to be able to This is the conclusion reached by the experts from the new car comparison portal Carwow. Accordingly, the average waiting time for electric cars in Germany is now too long to secure the full environmental bonus that will apply until the end of 2022 (source: Handelsblatt).

Between four and 19 months customers have to wait for their new electric car. Only two models can easily be obtained faster: The Mercedes EQS and the Jaguar i-Pace have a delivery time of three months. With their list price, however, both go beyond the limits of the environmental bonus, so they are not eligible. In individual cases, customers could also be lucky with the Mercedes EQE or Tesla’s Model Y. But you shouldn’t rely on it.
In the case of cheaper models, for which the full environmental bonus can actually be applied for, customers no longer have a chance: Zoe and Mégane E-Tech from Renault and the Car of the Year 2022, the EV6 from Kia, have delivery times of at least one year. According to the survey, the front runner is currently the Audi Q4 E-Tron. Whoever strikes today has to wait 18 to 20 months for the new e-car.
Buying an e-car can still be worthwhile even if the environmental bonus is lower:
Last hope for 9,000 euros: MG4 Electric is in the starting blocks
There is still a glimmer of hope: MG apparently wants to present its new electric car, the MG4 Electric, in the coming days. You want the first 1,000 pre-orders that lead to a purchase guaranteed to deliver in 2022. Approval and application should then, at least theoretically, still be possible in good time.
