10 Settings to Check on iPhone 14 Pro

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have started arriving to customers around the world. For those who have upgraded to one of the devices, we’ve put together a list of 10 useful settings that are worth checking out below.

Some settings are exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro model, while others were introduced in iOS 16 for the wider iPhone.

New Settings for iPhone 14 Pro Models

Enable 48MP ProRAW Photos

iPhone 14 Pro models have an improved rear camera system that can shoot 48-megapixel photos, but only in ProRAW mode, which can be enabled in the Settings app below. Camera → Format → Apple ProRAW with the resolution set to 48MP. In the Camera app, a button labeled RAW will appear in the upper right corner to easily enable or disable ProRAW.

ProRAW photos store more detail in image files for greater editing flexibility. 48-megapixel ProRAW photos are very large files that are about 75MB or higher each, so pay attention to your iPhone’s storage space when shooting photos in this mode.

Enable 4K Cinematic Mode

On all four iPhone 14 models, Cinematic mode videos can now be recorded in 4K. To enable a higher resolution in the Settings app, tap Camera → Cinematic Record and choose 4K at 24 frames per second or 4K at 30 frames per second.

Introduced with the iPhone 13 lineup, Cinematic mode features a depth effect with auto-focus changes for “cinema-style” videos.

Optimize Action Mode for Low Light

All four iPhone 14 models feature a new Action mode that adapts to significant shake, movement, and vibration for smoother looking videos. Apple says the feature can be used to record off-road videos in vehicles, record runners, and more.

The button for Action mode can be found in the top left corner of the Camera app for videos. In the Settings app, Action mode can be optimized for low light conditions by navigating to Camera → Record Video → Lower Light Action Mode.

Turn on Startup Sound

An optional new accessibility feature allows all iPhone 14 models to play a sound when turned on and off. This feature can be enabled in the Settings app under Accessibility → Audio/Visual → Sound On & Off.

Turn Off Always On Screen

The new always-on display mode iPhone 14 Pro is enabled by default. It can be turned off in the Settings app under Display & Brightness → Always On.

Always-on display mode dims the entire Lock Screen, but still shows the time, date, widgets, wallpaper, and unread notifications. After you lift iPhone, tap or swipe up at the bottom of the screen, or press the side button, the screen returns to normal brightness.

iOS 16 adds a new haptic feedback option for the stock iPhone keyboard. Similar to many Android smartphones, the iPhone can make a slight vibration after each key you press while typing, providing physical confirmation that the key was tapped.

In the Settings app, the features are below Sounds & Haptics → Keyboard Feedback → Haptics.

Add Battery Percentage Icon to Status Bar
